When you want to stop breastfeeding

  • It's up to you and your baby to decide when you want to finish breastfeeding.
  • The World Health Organization recommends that all babies are exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of their life, and from 6 months babies should start eating solid foods as well as being breastfed for up to 2 years or longer.
  • If you are not sure whether to continue with breastfeeding, you can contact the National Breastfeeding Helpline on 0300 100 0212 (every day, 9.30am to 9.30pm) or refer to this link below for greater information:

Common problems with breastfeeding (mastitis, clogs, sore nipples, etc.)

Please consult with your Health Visitor, Midwife, or GP if you develop any type of infections or long-lasting clogs. Some of these things can only be fixed with antibiotics, and you should not attempt home remedies.

  • We will make our best efforts to try and direct mothers to useful NHS advice, or recommend a Lactation Consultant.
  • We do not have a set age for the mother’s baby which would make her ineligible to provide milk.
  • No. Until the mother’s baby is older than 1 year old, we do not accept milk if their own babies’ needs are not being met first. Mother’s own babies are just as important as the infants we provide products too.
